HR Support
For startups that have outgrown founder-led people management
Senior HR support for founders who can't keep doing it all themselves.
You hired fast and ran HR on instinct. For a while that was fine. Everyone could fit around the same table, so you caught problems before they got out of hand. Now that the team’s bigger, you’re spending hours on people problems that should have been sorted months ago.
Let’s fix that.
Why HR gets harder as you grow
What works at a dozen people stops working at 50. You knew everyone's name and handled all the issues yourself. But you can't keep being the whole HR function forever.
It's rarely carelessness that leads you to this moment. HR is never the priority, until it suddenly is. By then there's usually a mess to clean up, be it a contract that wasn’t signed properly, or a manager nobody taught to manage. They’re small issues initially, but they can quickly become expensive ones.
What HR needs to do for your company
HR doesn't need to be complicated. You just need the processes that let you keep growing without tripping over yourself:
- Onboarding that supports your new hires, with a probation period that sets teams up for success.
- Managers who can manage. Not just people who were good at their old job.
- Hiring that brings in the right person and gives them a reason to stay.
- Pay and progression that still make sense once the team's doubled.
Get those right and you stop firefighting long enough to build the business.

I don't hand you a report and leave
I work as your HR person without being a full-time hire. Embedded enough to really know your business, and able to flex up or down as circumstances change. I get into the work with you, so you're not left figuring out what to do with nothing more than an unhelpful report.
For most founders that looks like fractional support, someone senior in your business a day or two a week at a fraction of what a full-time HR Director costs.
Whatever shape the support takes, the job’s the same. Nail the foundations, and you get your time back.

HR for Startups FAQs
When does a startup need HR?
Earlier than most founders think, though it rarely means a full-time hire straight away. The moment you're past a handful of people, you've got contracts to address and first-time managers trying to work out how to lead. Get the basics in early and you avoid the expensive clean-up later.
Can't I just handle HR myself?
You can, for a while. Most founders do. The trouble is it starts eating into your time, and the stakes grow as you scale. One badly handled exit can cost you far more than having a helping hand would have.
How is HR for startups different from a corporate HR department?
Startups need HR that's commercial and quick on its feet, solving what's in front of you while building foundations that hold as you scale. No layers of process built for a business 10 times your size.
How much does startup HR support cost?
Far less than a full-time hire. You pay for the support you need and scale it as the business changes. Book a call and I'll give you a straight answer based on where you're at.
Let's talk
If your company’s outgrowing the way you run it, let’s talk. 30 minutes of proper conversation with no sales pitch. We’ll find where the pressure is and work out how I can help. I’m based in London and work with founders across the UK, in person or remote.
